Sea Otters are native to the North American coasts of the Pacific Ocean. They typically weigh 30 to 100 pounds, so they are among the smallest marine mammals. They prey on sea urchins, mollusks and crustaceans. Hunted extensively for their exceptionally thick fur, their numbers fell to less than 2,000 when hunting stopped in 1911. Today there are over 100,000 sea otters.
