Although all sloths have three toes, three-toed sloths also have three fingers, unlike the generally large and faster-moving two-toed sloths. Sloths live high in the forest canopy, but descend once a week to defecate on the forest floor. Their long, coarse fur often appears greenish, due to algae growing on it, which serves as camouflage in their arboreal home. Large, curved claws help sloths keep a strong grip on tree branches.
